Prioritizing Tree-Based Systems for Optimizing Carbon Sink in the Indian Sub-Himalayan Region

Land use of the sub-Himalayan region is not that intensive like intensively land-managed Punjab, India. resources sub-Himalayas must be managed effectively for sustainable development by preparing carbon inventories and data banks. Such macro-level studies have been conducted yet in present study area, thus were to suggest land management options. To achieve study’s desired goal, 33 tree-based uses identified from forested agricultural landscapes sub-humid tropical West Bengal, Stratified random nested quadrat sampling was adopted study. The SOC, biomass, accumulation significantly differed. Mixed forests had highest soil primary nutrients stock. Positive correlations observed between total standing litter production, ecosystem carbon. sequence based on stock mixed-species forest > sole tree species stands a landscape tea plantations homegardens. This baseline information can used developing prediction models future interventions towards management. study, however, could estimate fluxes out systems due absence detailed land-cover databases.
